10-09-13 Equal Exchange in the UMC: Fair Trade
Date: Wednesday, 9 October, 2013 - Wednesday, 9 October, 2013
Time: 5:30 PM - 6:15 PM
Started in 2002, the UMCOR Coffee Project is a collaboration between Equal Exchange and the United Methodist Committee on Relief to involve more Methodist communities and individuals in supporting small farmers around the world.
For each pound of fairly traded coffee, chocolate, tea, and foods Methodists purchase through the UMCOR Coffee Project, 15 cents per pound goes to UMCOR's Small Farmer Fund, helping to increase the capacity of two coffee co-ops, Sopacdi and Muungano in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The projects improve quality management processes and strengthen their commercial relationships in the international market. That Fund amounted to $19,604.17 in 2012 alone!
