Small Group Ministries

The Chimes volunteers meet the 4th Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m. in the church’s library to stuff the newsletter. Anyone is welcome to come help. It’s a great social time. Contact Judy Mehren at (815) 397-0944 to help.

Court Street Book Club meets on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 4:00 p.m., to discuss a variety of books. Watch the announcements to find out the specifics of where they are meeting and what book they are reading. All readers are welcome!

Fellowship of Christian Men meets Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m. in the Parlor of the church. Share devotions and study with other men as you walk your faith daily. A great way to gain support, encouragement and understanding.

History & Archives meets Tuesdays at 9:00 a.m. in Room 201. A group of dedicated workers meets each week to preserve the history of Court Street United Methodist Church. Anyone interested in the history of the church and its preservation is always welcome.

Jeremiah Development is a not-for-profit organization begun by the four downtown churches: Court St. United Methodist, Emmanuel Episcopal, First Presbyterian, and Second Congregational UCC, to promote the wellbeing of our neighborhood. Keep an eye out for announcements in your bulletin or newsletter as to how you can join them on various activities to help our neighbors. Some of the activities are neighborhood cleanup, neighborhood gardening, and rehabbing a neighborhood house. Knitters have their needles clicking once a monthon the 4th Tuesday at 6:15 p.m. in the home of Jan Mace. Fellowship, sharing ideas & patterns, showing work in progress, finished projects & teaching new knitters. Questions? Call Jan at (815) 654-0104.

Methodist Mondays are Mondays during the summer. Help spread the neighborly love!  Sign up to give away small items, such as miniature candy bars or water bottles, and come out to greet the church's neighbors.  Notify the office that you need the table and outdoor sign and stop out to greet the neighbors!  Usual times are 7:30 - 8:30/9:00, 11:30-12:30/1:00, or 4:00-5:00/5:30.

Administrative Office Volunteers are a much needed service to the church.  The office utilizes volunteers to answer the phone, take care of people dropping in, sort the mail, proof publications, etc, so the staff can do their work more efficiently. Contact the office if you are interested in volunteering.

Quilters meet every Tuesday 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. in Room 206. Come and join us for fun, fellowship and food. All ages are welcome. If you can handle a needle and thread, you can learn to quilt. Monies earned from quilting are donated back to Court Street and local missions.

Thanksgiving Dinner Team volunteers are needed to help with Thanksgiving Dinners for the needy. Give as much time as you wish to help with planning, advertising, food preparation, facility setup, dinner serving, facility cleanup and more. United Methodist Women small groups invite all women to join! These small groups meet outside of the church, at various houses depending on the group.

  • Deborah Circle - Meets 3rd Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
  • Dorcas Circle - Meets 3rd Wednesday at noon (luncheon)
  • Lydia Circle - Meets 4th Monday at 7:00 p.m.

United Methodist Men meet the 2nd Saturday of the month at 8:30 a.m. at the Stockholm Inn, 2420 Charles St., for breakfast. All men are welcome to join this group that does many worthwhile projects in the church and community. Reservations are under the name of Dr. Pang, Court St. United Methodist Church. Please be prompt.
